Australia, June 1999, just before the Sydney Olympics, Bruce Maguire lodged a complaint against the Sydney Olympics organising committee. Unlike most blind people, Mr Maguire does not use a screen reader, instead he uses a braille display. Mr. Maguire argued that significant parts of the website, http://www.olympics.com/ were inaccessible to him.

In August 2000, the Australian human rights and equal opportunity commission finally announced their decision. They ordered the Sydney Olympics organising committee to make changes to their website before the start of the Games on 15 September 2000. They did not meet this deadline and were fined AU$ 20,000.
